Six Flags Magic Mountain
By Robin Roth
If you are daring, fearless, and looking for adventure in California , then
look no further than Six Flags Magic Mountain Park, the gathering place for all
true adrenaline fanatics and roller-coaster junkies.
Magic Mountain began in 1969. The Newhall Land and Farm Company came up with
the idea to create a more awe-inspiring alternative to the Disneyland and
Knott's Berry Farm amusement parks. They selected Valencia as its location, and
the rest is history. The park opened on May 29, 1971, with 500 employees and 33
attractions. Several of those employees designed and built many of the original
attractions at Disneyland . Magic Mountain later obtained permission from
Warner Brothers to use the Looney Tunes cartoon characters.
Magic Mountain offers more G-force thrills per minute than any other amusement
park in the world. As far as records go, it's set more records and won more
awards than any other park. The following rides are among the most awesome rides
in the park:
Superman: The world's tallest and fastest … only ride if you are ready for
major
drops!
Riddler’s Revenge: The tallest and fastest standup coaster… go for it only if
you are prepared to be knocked around a bit, ok, more than a bit. What the
heck, it’s all in the name of
fun.
Tatsu: Which my sources describe as the ride that delivers the most awesome
sensation of
flying.
Batman Begins: Sporting lots of twists and turns. A coaster where you hang
suspended from a looping, swirling track as you go flying through the air! A
must, 2-time ride… say my sources. Scream: Which
is precisely what you will be doing on this ride, I myself would be screaming
and dying!
Goliath Jr.: An awesome ride that kicks-off with a long climb to the top before
a huge hair-raising plunge downward and then, it goes on from there. I
would personally rather have a root-canal.
Viper X: X is probably the best ride in the park. Be prepared, however, to wait
in a crazy long line, but well worth it… They say that it is so fast that your
contacts may literally fly out of your eyes and your heart may skip a few
beats… Oh joy?
There are over a dozen world-class coasters spread throughout several themed
areas. When you're not speeding down a track at 90 mph, or free-falling 10
stories, there are many other attractions in the park you can enjoy as well.
There are shows presented daily at Magic Moments Theater, Batman Action Theater
and other onsite performance venues.Bugs Bunny World offers a numerous
adventures for younger children.
When you art tired of the rides, go shopping in one of the parks stores. If you
want a place to stop, eat,and unwind, check out the Cyber Café, (Here you will
find computers free of charge) or the Mooseburger Lodge.
Of special note to movie fans - Six Flags Magic Mountain doubles as "Wally
World" in 'National Lampoon's Vacation' with Chevy Chase
.
